Publicity Assistant
We are seeking a Publicity Assistant to join the dynamic team behind the #1 romance publisher in the industry. Working on Bloom Books, Sourcebooks Casablanca and Cosmo Reads titles, this role will have the opportunity to partner with senior staff on major author campaigns. This role will report to the Associate Director of Publicity but will involve strong collaboration with all teams at Sourcebooks.
The position also allows for a hybrid work schedule at our New York, New York or our Naperville, Illinois office and may qualify for a 100% remote position from the following states: Illinois, Arizona, Connecticut, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin. office if desired. This role includes some travel, including occasional meetings at the home office in Naperville, IL.
This is an hourly, non-exempt position with a salary range for this role is $21.16 - $24.04/hourly. We determine starting pay based on a thorough evaluation of job-related factors, including geographic location, market conditions, relevant experience, training, and education. What you’ll be doing:
- Assist team and Associate Director with mailings, press outreach and administrative tasks.
- Submit books for industry review coverage/trade reviews.
- Draft and edit press releases, pitch letters and media pitch lists.
- Assist with seasonal and monthly pitching to book media.
- Prepare expense reports and author event schedules.
- Attend select author events as a staff coordinator.
- Attend pitch meetings and build relationships with media contacts, booksellers, and event contacts.
- Send out books to key journalists, influencers and event contacts.
- Collaborate with the editorial, marketing, and sales teams.
- Create social media graphics and sales materials to best position our books for the right audience.
What you bring:
- At least 6 months of relevant experience—this can include internships, part-time roles, freelance work, or other professional settings.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines, multitask, and prioritize.
- Attention to detail and strong organization skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and confidence to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
- Proficiency in all Microsoft Office Programs, Google Workspace, and Canva
