Managing Editor (Part-Time, Freelance - Annual Contract)
As a freelance, part-time Managing Editor, you will work closely with the Fiske editorial team to update each new edition of the Fiske Guide to Colleges, the bestselling and most respected selective college guide on the market, not only ensuring the editorial integrity of the guide but also keeping its unique voice and spirit intact. Sourcebooks is the largest woman-led publisher in North America and continues to rapidly expand with record-setting growth year over year, and the Fiske Guide to Colleges has been part of this journey for more than 20 years. You’ll be part of a dynamic, innovative team that will draw upon your organizational skills, attention to detail, and passion for books.
This is a fully remote contract position with a monthly rate of $2500.
What you bring:
Contribute to the planning and strategic decisions for each new edition of the guide
Execute editorial updates for each edition, incorporating new data and information collected from the institutional questionnaires, student questionnaires, and additional research
Work closely with Edward Fiske, former Education Editor of the New York Times and author of the Fiske Guide to Colleges, collaborating on editorial decisions and providing additional support when needed
Monitor the editorial progress for each edition and help maintain a consistent schedule
Collaborate effectively across departments, working closely with the editorial and production teams as well as the author
Update basic specs and data in our database
Review pages for editorial quality, formatting, and layout, maintaining close communication with our Production Editors on these topics
Identify gaps or weaknesses in book content and suggest changes for improving both the product and our internal processes
Suggest changes to our questionnaires, which we send to schools annually
Communicate with school liaisons to obtain new and accurate information to use in the guide
Remain up to date on news and current events in higher education
