We are currently seeking an eBook Production Specialist (Contractor) to support a high-volume backlist accessibility initiative. Reporting to the Senior Print Production Manager and working closely with the eBook Production Coordinator, this is a 6-month, part-time contract role. It is ideal for someone with 3–5 years of experience in digital publishing or eBook production who is ready to take ownership of a structured, high-volume workflow. The right candidate is a self-starter who operates well independently, is highly organized and process-oriented, and brings a strong focus on quality and accountability.
This role will focus exclusively on preparing, tracking, and quality-checking eBook files as they move through our outsourced conversion workflow, ensuring our backlist catalog meets current quality and accessibility standards.
This is a remote contract position at $28 per hour, capped at 29 hours per week. The role is fully remote, and a company computer and necessary software will be provided.

What You’ll Do
Accessibility Workflow Management
- Prepare and validate backlist eBook files for vendor conversion
- Ensure files meet internal specifications
- Manage title intake and maintain organized tracking systems
- Send files to external conversion partner
- Monitor turnaround timelines and proactively flag delays
- Ingest completed files into internal systems
- Coordinate corrections and resubmissions as needed
- Perform structured spot checks on converted eBook files
- Verify file integrity, formatting accuracy, and accessibility elements
- Maintain consistency in metadata and file naming standards
- Track monthly production against defined volume targets
- Maintain accurate documentation of title status
- Identify workflow gaps and contribute to process improvements
- 3-5 years experience in publishing production and digital workflows
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Ability to manage repetitive, high-volume work with accuracy and consistency
- Comfort working independently in a remote environment
- Clear written communication skills
- Proficiency on the Macintosh platform and Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly InDesign, Dreamweaver, and Photoshop
- Familiarity with eBook reader software, particularly Kindle Previewer and Adobe Digital Editions
- Understanding of eBook accessibility standards and specifications
- Must love books — and believe they should be accessible to every reader
