Sourcebooks has an exciting opportunity for a Marketing & Publicity Manager within the adult nonfiction team, including bestselling memoir, true crime, self-help, cooking, and more.

You will quickly find that this is not your typical marketing job. This is a chance to lead and disrupt. We are a mid-size but growing publisher and what that comes with is all the capabilities of a major publisher along with the opportunity to make your own mark on the imprint – the books and the brand as well as the marketing. This is the perfect opportunity for an experienced marketer with an interest in exploring publicity.

This position can be hybrid in Naperville or NYC, or fully remote in the following states ONLY: Arizona, Connecticut, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin. Occasional travel to trade shows, training opportunities, and author events is required.

This is an exempt, salaried position with a range of $65.000 - $75,000.  We determine starting pay based on a thorough evaluation of job-related factors, including geographic location, market conditions, relevant experience, training, and education. This process ensures a fair and competitive salary that aligns with both the company and the candidate’s qualifications.    

What you’ll do:

  • Developing and executing strategic marketing and publicity campaigns.
  • Handling media outreach and coordinating virtual (and in-person) pitch meetings to secure high impact media placements.
  • Representing the brand on social media and growing our audience.
  • Owning the growth and development of the email marketing strategy.
  • Collaborating with the digital marketing team on discovery tactics and consumer-facing advertising.
  • Facilitating impactful events and trade show presence.
  • Creating visual marketing assets for a wide range of social platforms.
  • Writing compelling press releases and media pitches to generate traditional and digital media opportunities for key authors.
  • Managing the execution of galley mailings, including media, influencers, and trade submissions.
  • Consistently monitor title POS and impact of active marketing campaigns and strategies.
What you bring:
  • BA in Communication, Marketing, English, Journalism, and/or related course of study
  • 3-5 years of experience in Publishing or Marketing
  • Excellent promotional writing and communication skills
  • Basic HTML and graphic design skills, proficiency with consumer design apps and programs
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to department goals.
  • Open to travel for events as needed.
  • General experience working in PowerPoint, Excel, and Office programs.
  • Working knowledge of social media platforms as leveraged for author promotion.
  • Great people skills and high emotional intelligence (even if you’re not an extrovert!)
