As an Editorial Assistant, you will work closely with acquiring editors to accomplish all steps of widely varying projects on typically short schedules. This position allows for a hybrid work schedule. There may be the opportunity to work 100% remotely from the following states: Illinois, Arizona, Connecticut, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin. 

This is an hourly, non-exempt position with a salary range for this role is $21.16 - $24.04/hourly.  We determine starting pay based on a thorough evaluation of job-related factors, including geographic location, market conditions, relevant experience, training, and education. This process ensures a fair and competitive salary that aligns with both the company and the candidate’s qualifications. 

What you’ll do:

  • Act as a project coordinator/liaison on fiction titles across the Landmark editors.
  • Assist in the creative development of books, products and features.
  • Conduct industry and market research to determine marketplace trends, project strength, and competitive positioning.
  • Prepare copy for back cover copy, launch sheets, catalog pages, ARCs, other metadata maintenance as requested.
  • Write catalog, jacket, and marketing copy, and manage updating of data and content to company databases.
  • Serve as an instrumental part of team working in support of acquiring editors or publishing managers to help position new products in the marketplace with respect to content, category, title, etc.
  • Maintain the editorial schedule and communicate with internal and external partners to make sure deadlines are met/adhered to
  • Assist with a variety of assigned projects, general clerical, correspondence, shipping, editorial corrections.
  • Assist in managing weekly and monthly reports and sales data tracking as assigned.
What you bring:
  • 1 - 2 years of publishing experience preferred, and yes, we count internships, freelancing, book jobs and other editorial experiences
  • Bachelor of Arts degree preferred but not a must
  • Enjoy learning
  • Be a self-starter. Exhibiting initiative, leadership, and a strong desire to grow in book and product development
  • Positive, team-player attitude. We’re a friendly, hard-working team who is always thinking, “yes… AND!”
  • Love books. This is a must.
  • Juggle and coordinate. We want a clear communicator who is detail-oriented, organized, flexible, and can keep short- and long-term projects on schedules while following through on deadlines.  
  • Grammar guru. Excellent grammar skills and the ability to catch mistakes big and small are essential for this role.
  • Process knowledge. Strong knowledge of book production processes from conception to publication will be a strong asset in this role.
  • Love fiction. Ability and desire to work across many different genres and develop lists that cater to a wide array of readers.
