Are you passionate about storytelling and ready to make waves in the world of nonfiction? Sourcebooks, the sixth largest publisher in the US, is searching for a dynamic and innovative Marketing Director to join our powerhouse marketing and publicity team!

This isn’t just another job—this is an opportunity to be at the forefront of nonfiction publishing, where you’ll lead the charge in crafting impactful marketing campaigns across a wide range of genres, including memoir, history, true crime, cooking, lifestyle, celebrity, pop culture, social issues, and more. You'll play a pivotal role in launching titles that educate, inspire, and ignite conversations on some of today’s most compelling topics.

This position can be hybrid in Naperville or NYC, or fully remote in the following states ONLY: AZ, CT, MD, MN, NJ, NY, NV, OR, PA, TN, TX, WA, AND WI

As part of a collaborative and passionate team, you’ll have the chance to:
  • Drive consumer awareness for buzzworthy books in prescriptive and narrative nonfiction.
  • Create unforgettable moments by building author platforms, generating early reader buzz, and organizing appearances at major conferences.
  • Leverage the power of social media, using TikTok and Instagram trends to engage online communities and create excitement around our titles.
In this role, you will:
  • Develop and execute innovative marketing campaigns for 40+ nonfiction titles annually, spanning genres like memoir, history, true crime, pop culture, and lifestyle.
  • Drive consumer awareness using a mix of organic and paid strategies, including pre-order campaigns, social media (TikTok, Instagram), influencer outreach, and strategic partnerships.
  • Collaborate with authors to build their platforms, create grassroots marketing efforts, and organize appearances at key trade shows and events.
  • Leverage data and trends to optimize campaigns and track success across digital, print, and email marketing channels.
  • Lead brand strategy for major authors and backlist titles, identifying opportunities to grow sales, media attention, and market share.
  • Work closely with editorial, sales, and retail teams to ensure alignment on title positioning, campaign execution, and long-term planning.
  • Build outreach programs for media, influencers, and book clubs to amplify reach and buzz around key titles.
Required Skills/Education:
  • 6-8+ years  marketing experience for a book publisher.
  • Proven experience in book marketing;  excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong media relationships.
  • A willingness to experiment, pursue new ideas, and ways of working.
  • Strong creative perspective including writing skills and visual instincts.
  • Familiarity with TikTok and Instagram trends, and a keen awareness of the online audience landscape.
  • Demonstrated interest in the adult non-fiction category is a plus.
