Sourcebooks is seeking an experienced and solution-driven Senior Manager, Managing Editorial to lead it’s publishing planning and production execution across our award-winning Children’s fiction and non-fiction imprints. We're looking for someone who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and has a passion for building high-performing teams and creating smart, scalable systems to support extraordinary publishing programs. This is a key leadership role at the center of how we make our young readers every day.

The salary range for this role is $90,000 - $95,000 /annually. We determine starting pay based on a thorough evaluation of job-related factors, including geographic location, market conditions, relevant experience, training, and education. This process ensures a fair and competitive salary that aligns with both the company and the candidate’s qualifications.  

This role may be performed remotely, or on a hybrid basis in our Naperville or our New York City office. There may be occasional in-person meetings and travel to our Naperville office.

What you’ll do:
As the Senior Manager, Managing Editorial, you will lead both the Managing Editorial and Production Editorial teams dedicated to Sourcebooks Kids. This role is responsible for building scheduling systems and executing workflows that support the needs of editorial, design, sales, marketing, manufacturing, and our authors and illustrators across multiple age categories and formats that include board books, picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, and graphic novels.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Leading the development and execution of schedules, workflows, and operational plans for all Kids products
  • Partner closely with editorial, creative, marketing, sales, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless project delivery that supports both creativity and speed to market.
  • Managing and mentoring the Managing Editorial and Production Editorial teams
  • Ensuring timely, accurate delivery of high-quality book files across all formats
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams on creative development and project planning
  • Driving process improvements and workflow innovations that scale with the business
  • Supporting illustrator and art development timelines
  • Maintaining alignment between editorial, creative, and publishing operations to meet business goals
  • Providing strategic insight and leadership on new publishing initiatives and acquisitions
What you bring:
  • 8+ years of experience in managing editorial and/or production or publishing operations.
  • A deep understanding of the bookmaking process specifically around the unique needs of children’s books and 4-color trade book publishing
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex schedules and workflows across multiple teams.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • A growth mindset and the ability to lead in partnership through change with creativity and confidence.
  • A demonstrated track record of leading and mentoring high-performing teams.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with an eye for process optimization
  • Familiarity with custom scheduling and production timelines to support different formats and scopes of work.
