Communications Assistant
The Communications Assistant will be a key player in bringing our communications initiatives to life. This position is ideal for someone with 1-3 years of experience in a similar role, or a recent college graduate, who’s eager to sharpen their skills in an entrepreneurial, ever-changing environment. We're looking for a self-starter who wants to learn and grow with Sourcebooks: the ideal candidate is highly organized, unafraid to experiment, and has a keen understanding of how to use communications and information to motivate different audiences.
This is an hourly, non-exempt position between $19.50 - $21.63 (pay to commensurate with experience). This is a hybrid position and requires 3 days/week in the Naperville office.
Communications Assistant Responsibilities:
The heart and soul of this position is rallying a group of passionate book lovers around our shared mission that Books Change Lives. You will coordinate communications that help us celebrate our mission and do our best work together, rooted in book love. This includes, but is not limited to:
Finding new ways to enhance our entrepreneurial, creative culture as we grow as a company.
Assisting in creating content for communications like impactful all-company meeting agendas, visually appealing presentations that tell a great story, etc.
Creating and executing website content as needed (videos, interviews, etc.)
Helping develop engaging, brand-consistent messaging so that all communications maintain a personal touch while representing our mission and values.
Continuing to build a focused, branded social media strategy for telling the Sourcebooks story on LinkedIn and Instagram.
Supporting external items as needed like website updates, press releases, etc.
Assisting with internal culture-building events like reading challenges, all-company gatherings, etc.
Coordinating with key internal teams on strategic award submissions (Fast Company Innovation Awards, for example).
Working closely with the Senior Communications Marketing Manager to ensure all communications, internally and externally, tell our brand story while remaining authentic and approachable.
Assist in creating branded assets and language for internal initiatives as needed.
What you bring:
Bachelor's or Associate degree or 1-3 years in a similar role demonstrable experience in content creation, corporate communications, or social media management is a plus.
A basic understanding of the HOW and WHY of communications: How can we communicate and connect with our colleagues, and external stakeholders, in meaningful ways? Why is this important? How do we maintain and evolve our unique company culture as we grow?
Strong writing and copyediting skills, with the ability to adapt messaging for different audiences.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, staying organized and detail-oriented in a fast-paced environment.
People skills: this person will need to confidently work across teams to get things done.
Strong attention to detail.
A basic understanding of brand storytelling and language.
